J. Meetings of the Ladies', Decoration, and Invitation and Dace Committees werq held yesterday in the Town -Hall. _ :; The ladies are taking art enthusiastic interest in the Citizens' Ball movement, and the meeting of the Ladies' Commit- • tee, which was held at 11 ft.m. yesterday, was largely attended. V The' Mayoress ,v : .':; (Mrs. C. «L Parr) presided. A scheme of : decoration was devised; by the ladies, /; which if carried out will completely revo- ; lutionise the whole of the interior of the. , / Town Hall. The principal idea is that Ai the raair> hall should be used for, dancing and that a supper should be provided on > the same flat, in additionto -.a. buffet and :; sitting out room. It is proposed that the .; concert hall upstairs should he converted ■& into a suppv-r-TOom. ,--T The Decoration Committee, presided i over bv the Mayor, met at 4 p.m., and conferred w»tii the Ladies' Committee upen the whtl? matter of decorations/ and decided to appoint Mr. B. C. CMWell as honorary architect to draw up plans . embodying "the suggestions made by the ; : two committees. . .;. ■■ ."■".■-. ■.V'v'--.. ■-.■ '-■■''■ :'■■■.:■-: In the evening the Invitation and Dance ; Committee met, there being a large at- ' tendance. The Mayor also occupied tee* \. chair on this occasion. A recommenda- y ■ tion that £1 Is should be the price of gentlemen's tickets;,. and. that ladies' .; tickets should be 155,: was adopted. Upon payment of the fees a for-" mal invitation will be sent'to applicants.; : Sub-committees were appointed to look after; the engaging of a band,.the preparation of the floor, and other",matters of , detail. - ' ' ~ '~ '* " * "* " THE LOCAL BODIES' SHARE. ' In view of the large expenditure which Will be involved in connection .with the ; , reception to be accorded by the City of ; ..'' r Auckland, the City Council has requested the Mount. Eden : Borough: Council' to con- ; tribute towards the, fund. A letter re- : . :':;■; ceived by the Borough Council last night; . explained that it was anticipated that any :" ; expenditure" made for the purpose would, -.'■-■■> be validated by the Government. A proposal was; made that £50 should be given. Mr. D. Meikle at first contended that ; only ■■'.■'; £25 should be contributed. The council's funds, he said, were not in a too flourishing condition, and it had lately given £100 to the Exhibition. Mr. C. Hudson, how* • ever, made a small calculation and worked out the contribution at a little over a penny per head of the ratepayers. Mr. Meikle at once withdrew his objection, ■; and the motion Wait carried. The Mount Albert Borough Council de* cided last evening that the amount to be ''■■ donated be left for the Finance Committee to decide.
