THE DECEASED'S COLLAPSE.
HAD BEEN ' STUDYING HARD.
The deceased, Mr. W. Napier Bingham, of ' Ohakune, recently passed his final examination as a chemist. . His mother resides at Dannevirke.
According to Mr. Waters, who was one of the party, Bingham was not ; of the right type td ' attempt the ascent of Ruapehu. He' was about sft' Bin in height, slightly built, and of. a studious appearance, which was heightened by the wearing of glasses. He had neither the physique nor the condition to succeed in his attempt to reach the summit. It was owing to his breakdown on the upward journey that the party decided to return to the camp. That they did not find it is not . surprising when it is understood that they were in a fog, and from-where they were the spurs ran like fingers from the back of the, hand. It- was quite easy to mistake the way. Bingham had been studying very hard to pass his professional examinations. He was a fine hockey player.
