Mr.' v Christie states that the] party endured great hardships when| traveling up the river, and camped the first : night /at about seven o'clock. They tit a fire and eat by it all night. Proceeding at daybreak along the* river, they got to the big waterfall at about eight; o'clock, end after proceeding another 600 yds, found; the stick of the missing man. They immediately set about searching the pool, where the Body was eventuilly found. . . / 1 The searchers then proceeded to bring the body W;Fokak6/dowa the stream, but on finding it too heavy- for .five men to carry under the circumstances, it was decided that Messrs. Christie "and Hyde should go ahead to arrange for relieving partis. Mr. Christie states that on proceeding they mat quite a number of search parties, making .up stream, and: these would eventually meet the -party remaining with; the body. i; There would then be about 26 men «U^d to'bring the body out at present, while more were going to assist these in the morning. All those 'who have been- out looking for the deceased have had to put up with great hardships, and are deserving of the highest praise for* their sacrifice. • Mr. if. K. Lowe, resident engineer, has rendered most valuable assistance in bringing back to Ohakune members of search parties who have become weakened through the hardships. of, the search. Constable Annison, who had been almost continuously on the search has bad a very rough time.
