A DOMINION SHOW.
♦ .■■'■■;. DURING THE EXHIBITION. The question of holding a " Dominion Agricultural and Pastoral Show" at Auckland during the' currency of the Auckland ■; Exhibition, was discussed at the annual meeting of the Auckland A. and P. Association yesterday. The proposition was spoken of by many members with enthusiasm, and on the motion of Mr. G. J. Garland, it Was unanimously decided that such a show should be held, and that the executive of the association should determine the most suitable date. • ;.| In view of the prospect that stock might; be expected from all parts of the Domin- 1\ ion, it was resolved that the executive should endeavour to secure judges for the principal classes from Australia or else- j where outside the Dominion,, so that they should be strangers to the stock. Mr. E. D. McLennan said that on a recent visit to Gisborne, he had found there a strong desire for such a show, and he was satisfied that the venture would \ be well supported by owners, of stock. '■ '■ • The president {Mr. J. M. Phillipps) urged that in connection with the Dominion , Show special prizes should ba offered for horses and dairy cows which had produced .a certain number of offspring up to a certain standard of excellence. The abil- ; ity of a cow to'transmit her'"trim- goodqualities tosher offspring, and of a horse to transmit his good qualities, was of fully 1 as much importance and* value as the aualifications possessed by the animals lemselves. The chairman's proposition was embodied as a recommendation to the incoming | executive. ' ■ Sir ..Robert Lockhart said that one of ; the most important things for the execu- : tive to do was to try to have the facilities for railing stock improved. ■ At the conclusion of the discussion, the chairman issued a general invitation to members of the association to make suggestions for the Dominion Show, stating that they would receive the close attention ! of the committee.
