H.M.S. NEW ZEALAND.

♦■ RECEPTION AT AUCKLAND.. Preliminary arrangements have been made by the committee of the Auckland Harbour Board for the reception of H.M.S. ! New Zealand on her arrival in Auckland. The committee has decided that a programme similar to that arranged for the reception of the American fleet nearly five years ago, "will be appropriate to the occasion. The chairman of the board (Mr. J. H. Gunaon) stated last evening that as the board is the controlling authority of the port, the duty of welcoming the warship to the harbour devolved upon it. The committee has, therefore, decided that the board will tender a suitable reception to the party from the New Zealand immediately it lands, at the head of Queen Street Wharf. A reception from the city will _ follow, and the committee has communicated with the Mayor, asking for his co-operation in the matter. The committee has also decided .to arrange an elaborate scheme of illuminating the port in honour of the vessel's arrival, and other plans are now being formulated. "In view of the great welcome and reception given by South Africa, New Zealand must not be behind in its welcome, for, after all, the warship is ours," Mr. Gunson added. A public meeting, convened by the Mayor, will be held in the Town Hall this afternoon to arrange for the citizens' welcome to the warship* . , • • ...... i ;•■ ■'. .',.'■■ ■■'./ .~/ ..■:■ '■'
