.' » — YOUNG MAN ARRESTED. [by TELBGBAHB.— COEBESPONDENT.] Wahg, Wednesday. . AT the Police Court this morning, before Messrs. W. M. Wallnuttand J. E. Slevin, J.P.'s, a young man named J. Poniton, said to be a bookmaker, was charged with taking a bet on March 6 in a publio place at Waihi on certain races at Te Aroha on March 8. Sergeant Wohlman, who appeared for the police, asked for a remand until March 18. He said that accused was arrested on warrant at Frankton, and there was evidence that he was leaving the district, a ticket for Pahnerston North being found in his possession. There was a probability of another charge being layj •against him. The remand was granted, and bail fixed at two sureties of £25 each, and accused in his own personal recognisance of £50.
