GALE AND HEAVY RAIN.
DELAYS TO SHIPPING. [TIT TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CiiP.iSTCircßcn, Sunday. Weather conditions have been extremely wintry since Thursday night. A southwest wind has been blowing for the past, three days, and there has been an unusually heavy rainfall. There was an almost continuous downpour of rain throughout Thursday night and all day Friday. On Friday night the wind freshened to a strong gale, but it moderated yesterday morning. The. gale was general all along the coast, and steamers arriving at Lyttelton on Saturday reported having had a fairly rough time, with thick weather and heavy rain at sea. The ferry steamer Maori, was over an hour lato arriving at Lyttelton, tho delay being due to strong winds and heavy seas. The big steamer Tyrone, which left Wellington at noon on Friday was over 20 hours on the passage to Lyttelton. The Huddart-Parker steamer Victoria also had a long and rough passage from Wellington to Lyttelton.
Tho weather cleared yesterday afterjpon, but to-day the rain has been continuous and the weather cold.
