NORTH SHORE CLUB.
Although oarsmen 011 the southern side of the harbour had rough water to contend against on Saturday, the members of the North Shore Club held competitions under perfect conditions at Cheltenham Beach. . There wero trial fours for nonregatta crews, for trophies presented by Messrs. Bowley, Grubb, and Rutledge, and trial pairs for trophies presented by Mr. H. Elliott, an lion, member. The first heat of tho trial fours was won by R. Kessel (stroke), N. Bailey, J. Teton, and A. Powley. and the second heat by Emerald! (stroke), J. Corlett, W. Chilcott, and W. Cooksley. In the final Kessel's crew won by a length. The pair oar events resulted as follows: — First Bound: W. Mclllwraith and C. Fowler beat E. Gilmour and E. Bowley by one and a-half lengths. Second Round: P. Stephenson and E. Harvey beat E. Bailey and F. Best by one lonKth. Third Round: O. Wolfgramme and S.Bennett beat P. Weston and W. Wynyard by three-quarters of a length; F. Bennett and G. Bailey a bye. First Semi-Final: W. Mcllwraith and C. Fowler beat F. Bennett and G. Bailey by three-quarters of a length. Second Semi-Final: P. Stephenson and E. Harvey beat O. Wolfgramme and S. Bennett by a canvas. Final: W. Mcllwraith and C. Fowler (A. Bailey cox.) beat P. Stephenson and E. Harvey (P. Spraggon cox.) by 0, length. Tho next, set of trial fours is to be held on Saturday afternoon nest at the clubhouse, the entries closing on Thursday evening. Tho challenge enp presented by three old rowers, and H. Smith's studio trophies are to be competed for by financial members only.
AUCKLAND CLUB'S TRIAL FOURS. For some considerable time on Saturday afternoon it looked as if the Auckland Club's trial 'lours wonld have to be postponed. A strong westerly wind was blowing, and the harbour, in consequence, was rather rough. However, conditions improved as the afternoon wore on. and the races wore eventually got off. The following crews contested the final:— (stroke), Barris, Crossley, and Cook; Anderson (stroke), Stainton, Connelly, and Lenihan; Tallia (stroke), Forbes, Jenkin, and Kirk. Lovett's crew commenced well, and led all the way, winning eventually by about a length from Anderson. On Saturday nest pair-oar trials for trophies presented by the vice-commo-dore (Mr. A. Brown) will be held.
