She died J recently, and it was then discovered. 1 eho had left about £3000, although she J had generally been regarded as on the ' verge off destitution. The woman lived I alou», the house was sparsely furnished, ' and she always : pleaded that she was in want. She deprived herself of necessaries, and, according to a medical man, thus hastened her death. The foundation of her fortune appears to have been some money left her by her late husband, who died "many years ago. While everyone thought she was ncaring the end of her resources; she was saving and scraping to - increase her son's inheritance. Her home always bore signs of great poverty, and to the charwoman who occasionally helped she apologised for the scanty food. , -
