INCIDENT AT WAIHI.

FEELING NOT DEAD YET.

.MINERS INSULTED IN AUCKLAND.

[BY TELEGRAPH.OWN* CORRESPONDENT.]

Waihi, Tuesday. A KtJMBKii of women who made themselves particularly conspicuous for militant tactics during the recent strike -assembled at the railway'station last evening and awaited the arrival of the five o'clock train, evidently expecting that the man Walter Edmund Harvey would be a passenger, but they were doomed to disappointment, as Harvey did not put in an appearance. While they were waiting at the- station, one of the company's brakes, with a few occupants; happened to pass by, and noticing the women, those in the brake indulged in a cheer. The women responded with their former enthusiasm,, using epithets familiar to the ears of the public of Waihi. The women were evidently encouraged by their immunity from police interference. Three members of the Waihi Catholic Club, and one 'Thames man (a relative of deceased), who had been attending the funeral of the late W. Sullivan, killed at the Ponsonby drainage works, stato that they had a most unpleasant experience on the Auckland railway station on Monday morning. They were about ; to« board the train when it is alleged that » striker (a member of the old union), accompanied by 30 of 40 men, came along and accosted one of the party, who is a member of the new union, and called him a "scab." It is also alleged that he shook his fist and referred in a jeering manner to the fact of the Waihi man coming down to attend the funeral. Others ' of the party also called out " scab." ■ . The police were sent for, but on arrival the principal offender was nowhere to' be seen. * Two officials of the Federation of Labour were stated to be on the platform at the time.
