RIVAL OUTBACK CARRIERS.

, Sydney, December 4. Thehe is great rivalry going on among soruo of tho carriers in the far west of Now South Wales, each being anxious to secure tho honour of bringing in tho biggest load of wool.. ~. . ....... . . Last week UK.bales .of scoured, wool was brought from Goodooga. to Browarrina, a ■distance .of 7.6 miles, by a. carrier.named Charles Johnston,, who is,knqwn outback as "Ton-ton Johnston." . He lias, tho Herald says,, always made it a.point of honour to draw tho .largest loads ho can secure. Tho bigger they are tho better he likes, them. J.ho, waggon, which is. 18ft in .length, was drawn by 20 bullocks, which are.in splendid condition,..Thj* loading was Ave tiers in : height. "On top was the Browarrina Town I J iant, > which, was engaged for tho occasion by Ted-ton." The band rendered selections from the .top of .the load whilst it was being drawn through the town to tho railway -station-. Above tho load' two- -ensign's ! were displayed—one at each end.. It bein;' the weekly half-holdiav. a largo number of people were present. -Most of them followed the team, which,, by the time it had reached the railway station, was surrounded by art army of horsemen and pedestrians. The load, when put on the- scales, weighed (waggon included) 13 tons 19cwt. bi> Whilst "Ten-ton's" waggon' was on the scales, another team came along, that of another ,well-known ,„.carricr„ named Ted Berry,, with 100 more" bales, of scoured Unomery wool. Hl* team consisted of 20 bullocks. Several of the many wavback carriers about, tho district are determined not to be m,tdona,by .I'.Ten-ton,,'.; . B. Brown started from Goodooga for Browarrina to-day with 120 bales of scoured Gnomery wool on his waggon.
