WEST END CLUB.

Regatta crews aro now training steadily, and each week sees a groat improvement in the style of the men. Unless a run of bad luck is experienced the club should do w fl' ft the forthcoming regattas. The light maidens are doing particularly good work under tho watchful eye of tho president of tho club, Mr. J. Clark, and Mr. W. , Conway appears "to have the light juniors well in hand. Tho remaining three crews are endeavouring to got into form without tho assistance of coaches—rather a difficult undertaking. The club will bo pleased to hear from old members willing to do a little coaching. . Interest is being taken by club members m the Northern regattas, and it is moro than likely that two crews will assist at Russell. lho maiden and junior crows are both making an effort to obtain the necessary leave for what should prove a pleasant holiday jaunt. It is proposed to visit Whangarei on tho return trip. The Whangarei Regatta is looked forward to annually by a number of Auckland oarsmen, and this year it is probable that tho West End Club will bo represented in tho youths' fours, light and heavy maidens, and light and heavy juniors. Members of the club have formed a lifesaving class, and classes of instruction will shortly bo held. NORTH SHORE CLUB. Tho fourth set of trial fours in connection with tho North Shore Rowing Club will be held this afternoon. The trophies to be competed for havo boon donated by Mr. H. Jones, hon. member, and with 13 crews competing, interesting races aro anticipated, -the course will bo tho No. 1, starting out in Rangitoto Channel, and finishing off the clubhouse, providing, of courso, if weather conditions aro favourable. The starter has instructions not to wait for any crew that may bo late at tho post, and it behoves the members to bo punctual. The first race is timed to start at 2.45 o'clock. With the object of encouraging tho new members, and also to allow tho regatta crews to train, the committee has decided to debar all regatta men from the next set of trial fours, which will be held on Saturday fortnight for trophies presented by Mr. W. Any member not training will bo replaced by other new members. The regatta crews have now settled down to solid work, boats being out morning and night. Although the weather has been against good rowing on the clubhouse side, tho crews have beon enabled to row at Cheltenham Peach, the committee "havincr had a boat placed in the yard of one of tho momj bers near the beach.

Tho convertible double-smller ordered from G. Norton and Sons. Wellington, has been housed, and during tho week has been used a great deal. Tlie club has the crews, but is sadlr in need of coaches. Old members who have been through the mill would be welcomed at the clubhouse.
