JESUIT ORDER IN GERMANY
By Telegraph.— Association— (Received December 5, 10.30 p.m.) Berlin, December 5. In the Reichstag Herr von Beth-mann-Hollweg (German Chancellor) said the decision of the Federal Council on Bavaria's claim for a more liberal interpretation of the anti-Jesuit law merely involved a codification of a long prevailing practice regarding the Jesuits. If the Centre party withdrew their confidence they would simply make the anti-Jesuit laws the keystone of a political programme. The antipathy of the Protestants towards the Jesuit Order was, he said, justified by the latter's past.
Since the expulsion of the Jesuit Order from Germany by Parliamentary decree in 1872, many attempts have been made to procure the recall of the society, but without success.
