WOMEN AND HAT PINS.
Someone r.t the last City Council meeting brought up tiie question ■whether hi something should be done to prevent tho \tnnecesaary use of long hat pins by women,, and I "very much regretted to see that he was net seriously taken- I certainly think that the councillor in question is to: be commended for trying to remedy what ha? become a serious menace to the public. (Sydney is doing its part, why should, not Auckland follow in the same way? Unfortunately there is no means of getting' at the number of people who have suffered, but I feel Quito sure it mu3t be large. Only on •Saturday last in a tram eominj from Ponsonby, isaw a girl with hat pins protruding fully two inches outsido the brim of her hat, and two people in the tram were scratched in the face with the pins. When they complained to the wearer, she laughed . and treated tho matter as a joke. What wo require is a by-law prohibiting tho use of hat pins -unless the points are covered with protectors. Perhaps tho councillor ■will again bring up the matter, and I hope with more success. Crcsabe.
