GOLD FROM THE BEACHES.
A SUCCESSFUL INVENTION. [BY TRLEGrtAPH. —PR ESS ASSOCIATION.] Wi:stport, Friday. Tin; Carthage Gold Mines, Ltd., a small company formed some time ago, has successfully solved the problem of working the low-lying beach gold leads. The mine has been making a steady profit of from £12 to £13 per day, and it is confidently predicted that the whole of the beaches from Westport to Ngakawau will now be worked on the principle, which is the invention of a local man. The fact that these sands can lie raised and treated for one penny per yard is a factor in goldmining that must give the whole of this port-ion of the west coast a fillip, as there are many miles of similar beaches from Cape Farewell to Jackson's Bay.
