GUNPOWDER EXPLOSION.
TEMPORARY BLINDNESS. A young man, named R. Padget, mot with a serious accident at Waitakere on Wednesday, owing to some gunpowder exploding, and causing temporary blindness. Padget was using dynamite to extract tree stumps. He had fired a. charge, and in disposing of the lighted match, threw it into a tin of gunpowder which ho was using to form a trail from fuse to dyna(mite. An explosion occurred, and the young man was rendered sightless. Remembering that the dynamite would also be shortly exploding, he made a' dash for safety, and although deprived of his sight, ho managed to find his way to a house in the neighbourhood. After his i injuries were attended to, he was driven to Mount Albert for medical attention bv Dr. Ilossitcr. Inquiries yesterday elicited the information that .although his eye-lids are badly scorched, it is not anticipated that he will lost his sight permanently.
