They stated' that in many 1 cases the time was so limited that it was impossible for British manu- '• facturers to tender except by cable. ■ The witnesses also protested J against the.New Zealand income tax on the business .of non-resident traders. ' - A representative of the Manchester Ship Canal urged the deletion from Australian charters of a clause prohibiting the use of the ship canal, stating ■ that all other countries, had done so. 1 ' v ■ L In connection with the purchase of laree quantities of' silver by the 5 Indian Government through the firm of Samuel Montagu and.
