IMPROVED DEPTH OF WATER,

[BE TELECIIArH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wangantjt, Saturday. The Harbour Board's engineer (Mr. Howarth) reported last evening that the old bar at the entrance to the river bad practically disappeared, there being an improved depth, due to the scour, of 2ft 6in where the bar formerly existed. Where three or four years ago there- was only between 10ft and lift, there was now 25ft 6in of water. The bar is 600 ft beyond the end of the moles, where the depth in 22ft 6in, and the Board proposes extending the moles another 1500 ft, in where the depth will Iks 30ft to 40ft. The engineer says a vessel drawing 20ft can now enter the port.
