In view of the tightness of the English money market, the Government has had inquiries made in Europe, especially in) Paris, as to the probability of successfully floating a debenture loan. Mean-while, the war has begun, but it is understood that the Government has received a. reassurance that the money will still bo forthcoming. The Sydney Morning Herald state's that the Government has already practically placed the £3,000,000 loan.

The Treasurer will deliver his Budget next week. It is expected to show a small surplus. It is unlikely to disclose further taxation for revenue purposes.
