AUCKLAND ART SOCIETY.

Tho annual meeting of the Auckland Society of Arts was lieid last evening, Mr. iA. E. JUevore presiding over an attendance of some 20 members.

I On the motion of Mr. T. W. Leys, seconded by Air. E. M. do Vitz. the annual report | (already published) was adopted. ! Mr. do Vitz, in accordance with notice, moved as follows:—" (1) That this meeting .sees no reason why the members who resigned lajt year should bo debarred from joining again; (2) that this meeting requests the trustees of the picture purchase fund to collaborate with the Auckland Society of Arts in devoting part of the fund to the general benefit of all members; (3) that this meeting approves of enlarging the scope of membership by admitting scientific, literI ary. and craftsmen." | The motions were withdrawn, after Mr. de Vitz had made explanations, and after the president had pointed out that they were all embodied in the rules. Mr. J. - Fitzgerald moved: "That at least three membera of the society's council shall be professional artists." This was seconded by Mr. A. V. Hunt. After consideration by the meeting it was thought desirable to amend the motion to read, " That it is desirable that at least, etc.," and this was carried.

MOUNT EOSKILL ROAD BOARD.

1 The monthly meeting of the Mount Roskill Koad Board was hold last eveningI resent Messrs. Chas. Bagley (chairman), T. h. Hayr, C. Worrall, J. Haslctt. and E. ,„ or . V l6 Valuation Department wrote notifying the Board that it was intended to make a start on _ tho valuation of the Mount Roskill district shortly, and applied for use of the Board's office. It was agreed that Mr. F. O. Ewington be asked to act as tho Board s representative, to deal with the valuations with the Department's nicer. It was decided to double last year s order for tar on this occasion for asphalting purposes. It was resolved that tho footpath along Torrance Road be completed during the coming summer. The chairman stated that the Board had contributed £50 towards the cost of laying gag mains along Three Kings Road to the i unction of three roads on the Mount '.Eden boundary, and as a lamp in this locality would boneflt the residents of both districts, he moved that tho Mount Eden Borough Council be asked to erect one there. This was carriod. Credit balances woro roported in the several funds, while accounts totalling £293 lis Id were passed for payment. An several new estates are about to be cut up in the outer area of the district, including one of over 100 acres, tho chairman moved, and it was agreed to. that the following roading regulations ap ply in the outer area:—(a) That the roads bo formed 66ft in width; (b) that the roads include a footpath on each side of 10ft in width: (c) that tho roads bo covered with scoria for a width of 25ft—12ft 6in on each side of the centre line; (d) that proper water ohannels be formed; (e) that the roads liavo a cambro of 12in; (f) that the roads have no cant, and to be of a grade of not more than one in 15: (g) that provision bo mado to carry oil' storm water; (h) that the regulations bo framed in accordance with the inner area by-laws. The chairman was deputed to attend the conference of local bodies' officers, to discuss matters in connection with wages, etc. Mr. Bagley was appointed to interview Mr. F. W. Lang, M.P., with a view to tho Board obtaining authority to expend the Government grant of £500 on Waikowhai Park. The Rev. 11. Mason, who recently located a supply of water for tho Board at Throe Kings, wrote acknowledging the donation forwarded, and thanked the Board for its kindness and courtesy.
