DEATH OF TROTTING STALLION. Tub highly-bred trotting stallion Sweet Patch died somewhat suddenly at about six o'clock list evouing from hemorrhage. On Monday the stallion was token to Whit ford from Sylvia l'urk in ch.irgn of .Mr. ,T. Taylor. The animal then appeared 1o he in Hj)]eiidid condition. The following day Sweet Patch was taken to Bioi'.kby. and dining (he morning lie, broke out into a perspiration, ami developed other symptoms of sickness. A drench was administered, and the animal was attended by a. veterinary surgeon. Yesterday tho owner arrived at, Brookliy from Auckland hy motor car with remedies (<> apply to tho animal. But these, proved of no avail. - Sweet Patch was a valuable animal, whose Hire was Geo. if. Patchen, tho dam being Creole. The stallion was insured for £200, but was valued at £500. Tho Dannevirlco Pacing Club's Steeplechase Meeting wan held to-day in fine, but dull weather. There was a large attendance. „ The totalisator investments amounted to £8728 for the eight races, as against £5833 for the seven events at the corresponding meeting last year. There were two serious accidents. In the Hack Hunters' Steepleehaso several horses fell. Julian, tho rider of Longboat, bad his collarbone broken, while the horse broke his back.
