Lima, July 25. An earthquake has wrecked the town of Piura, on the foothills of the Cordilleras, in Northern Peru.

Many persons were killed and a large number of others were injured.

The town of Piura has a population of about 10,000. It is the centre of a district containing rich petroleum deposits.
