STOCKS AND SHIRES.

BUSINESS DONE YESTERDAY. Business on the Stock Exchange was a little brisker yesterday, and the tone of the market, as far as the big mines -were concerned, showed a slight improvement. Not a great deal was done in standard stocks, but prices were steady. Sellers of National Bank shares quoted £6 Is, buyers offering £5 18,s 6d. Union Banks were also quoted yesterday at £62 arid £61 for sellers and buyers respectively. New Zealand Insurances were again done at 96s 3d, and quotations closed even at 96s 9d sellers, 95s 9d buyers. Wegtport Coals changed hands at 28s 6d, and more were offered at this, figure, buyers still quoting 28s 3d. In milling, Talismans were not transferred, but their position was a little hotter at closing, buyers advancing to 395, sellers holding for 39s bd. Wailiis, after selling at 355, closed 6d higher than on the preceding day, buyers quoting 35s to sellers at 35s 6d Waihi Grand Junctions were a point hardar, and were done during the day at 225. A reported .sale at 33s took place in WaihiPaeroas (paid up), May Queens were easier at lid, and Victorias at 6d, Ross Goldfields were sold at from 5s 6d to 5s 3d to 5s 8d to 5s 7(1, and Crowns changed hands at 2s 6d.
