RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] ■ Palmebston North, Saturday. The findings of the Railway Appeal Board were delivered this morning in the cases heard yesterday. In regard to Porter Short's "appeal against dismissal, the Court was unanimously of opinion that the appellant was not under tho influence of liquor, but at the same time was opinion that the appellant should have signed on at the time he was requested. It recommended that a fine of £1 would meet tho case. In regard to the appeal of Porter Murphy against dismissal, tho Court was of opinion that there were faults both on the part of appellant and the coaching foreman. Tact on the part of the superior officer would, in the opinion of the Court, probably have prevented the occurrence (refusal to put luggage in a van). The incident was an isolated one in tho service. The Court considered the punishment outweighed tho and in its opinion the appeal should be upheld. Dr. McArthur congratulated all concerned on the amicable manner in which the proceedings had been conducted.
