WEST END CLUB

The West End Rowing Club rowed off single scull trials on Saturday, for trophies —for both the winner and the runner-up— presented by Mr. C. V. Bedford, an old member of the club. The following are the results of the various heats: -- .

Cole. Final: B. Keane. 6s. beat A. Blakey. Bs. This was a great race, Keano winning by inches. Tho club will be "At Homo" to friends and supporters on Saturday next, when the Kohn shield and trophies, presented by Messrs. A. Kohn, will be competed for. The annual race provided by the club for veteran oarsmen will also take place, and a good afternoon's sport should result. Following are tho crews for the Kohn shield.—First heat: E. Miller: B. Sheppard (stroke), H. Bell, A. Kelly, Blundell. AUCKLAND CLUB. Ideal weather conditions prevailed ■on Saturday afternoon, when the Auckland Rowing Club held trial fours for gold brooches (ladies' nomination) presented by the commodore, and trophies donated by Mr. J. Negus, a former member of the club. Some splendid racing was witnessed, and the form shown by the crews generally was very satisfactory. The commodore kindly placed his launch at the disposal of the club for controlling the races.

In the first heat Cannon's crew, who rowed well, won by a good length from Mason (second), and Talliss. The second heat, was the best race of the day, the crews keeping well together for almost the whole length of the course. Barber winning by two feet, with Blaikie only a canvas behind. Dromgool's crew forfeited in the third heat, leaving Belcher and Sinel to fight it out. the latter winning after a hard race by something over a length.

In the final, Sinel's crew got well away, and wero never seriously challenged, winning by a length. The crew consisted of C. Sinel (stroke), R. Wilson (3), Stainton (2), A. King (bow).

Trial fours are to be held next Saturday for gold medals presented by Messrs. Riggs and Collinson. two members of the club. Entries will close to-morrow evening.

NORTH SHORE CLUB,

Tho members of the North Shore Rowing Club held double sculling races on Saturday afternoon over the No. 1 course, starting at North Head, and finishing off the club-house. These wore the first races of their kind held by the club this year, and tho new convertible sculler, which has been donated by an honorary member, was used in the races, the crew sculling in her eventually winning the final. Although the water was somewhat lumpy, the wind coming in from the south, the form displayed w;ts excellent. The finishes were very close, several of the heats just being won on the post. Mr. J. Rres George, an honorary member of the club, donated the trophies, and also acted as judge. Mr. Bennett was starter.

The first heat was contested by W. McIlwraith and S. McMahon aeainst F. Bennett and W. H. Bowler. Tho first-named pair went to the lead, but at half-way Bennett's boat assumed the lead. After a very close race Mcllwrajth and McMahon forged ahead, and gained the verdict by 4ft. L. Sninley and H. Grubb met L. Weston and W. Wynyard. At the word " Go," the first-named took the lead, and after a hard struggle won all out by half a canvas. P. Weston and E. Gilmour came out against D. Law and K. Wallace. P. Weston and Gilmour came away at the start, and leading the others all the way won by 18in. E. Flynn and G. Bookless drew R. Spinlcy and L. Cuff. Tho crews came away together, and over three-quarters of the course were level with one another. At tho finish Spinlcy and Cuff, sculling strongly, won by three-quarters of a length.

In the first semi-final Mcllwraith met L. Spinier, and Raining a length at the start, won by 1J lengths. R. Spinley came out against P. Weston. This was a good race, Spinley leading most of the way, and then the last-named took the lead, winning all out by two lengths.

The final then took place between W. Mcllwraith and S. Mahon (D. Goldwater cox.) and P. Weston and E. Gilmour (E. Spraggon cox.). When it was being contested the tide was running In. and the race was rowed in fast time. At the fall of the flag the crews moved away as one, and at the quarter-way mark the firstnamed scullers, swinging well together, came away from their opponents, and, sculling strongly, were given the verdict by about a length and a-half.
