PICNICS AND EXCURSIONS.
FAVOURED with ideal summer weather, the various water excursions on Saturday and yesterday were well patronised.
The Auckland Harbour Board's employees' annual picnic to Pine Island on Saturday was attended by about 1000 people, the ferry steamer Condor making two trips to the island. The picnic was attended by several members of the Board, Captain Duder (harbourmaster). Mr. Burnett (the Board's secretary), and various officials A brass band was in attendance, and a very pleasant day's outing was spent by all prosent.
The employees of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company held their annual outing at Motutapu on Saturday. The ferry steamer Albatross conveyed fully 900 employees and their friends to the island, where sports and other forms of recreation were indulged in during the day. The fine sunny day yesterday induced large numbers of people to go on the water excursions. The usual Sunday trips to St. Heliers Kay. Howick. Motutapu, and Rangitoto drew largo numbers of pleasure-seekers. In the afternoon exceptionally largo numbers of people journeyed, across the harbour to Devonport, the chief attraction being the camps of the territorials at Fort Cautley "and Fort Takapuna. The trip to Bayswater and Lake Takapuna still maintains its popularity, and several thousands went to Takapuna by this route yesterday-
