LOAN AND MERCANTILE PICNIC

THE sixth annual picnic of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company was held on Saturday, when a party of about 150, consisting of the members of the staff, store, and siock departments, with their wives and families, went by the p.s. Eagle to Motutapu, Mrs. Keid having kindly given permission. A most pleasant day was spent. On arrival at Motutapu a few sports were carried out, with the following results:—Junior handicap: Swaffield 1, Harris 2. Senior handicap : McCusher 1, N. Somerfield 2. Store handicap: W. Bartlett 1, B. Idle 2, C. McCusher 3. Veterans' handicap: Doncaster 1, Penhaligan 2. Single ladies' race: Miss N. Bennett 1, Miss Hall 2, Miss Masefield 3. Married ladies' race: Mrs. Kingsbury 1, Mrs. Byburn 2. Mrs. Hanflin 3. Steeplechase: Hanflin 1, Hall 2, SanderKaces for the children were also held, and each child, winner «or not, received a prize, which gave the youngsters great pleasure. After the sports lunch was partaken of, which had been put on the tables all ready by some of the ladies. After lunch a cricket match was played, which caused some excitement. After the finish of the match tea was all ready for the picnickers. This, the sixth . annual picnic, was declared by all to be the best yet held, the success ■ being mainly due to the generosity of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, Mr. F. J. Bodle, and Mir. H. O. Nolan.
