NORTH SHORE CLUB. GENERAL HANDICAP WON BY COLMA, The North Shore Yacht Club held a general handicap race on Saturday afternoon. The race was open to all club yachts, and 30 boats started. The first prize wa« Captain T. Ryan's trophy, valued at £10 10s, and tha Dunning cup, which has to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals by the same boat before becoming her absolute property. The second, third, fourth, and fifth prizes were . presented by Messrs. W. Wilkinson, Cyril Bell, Lowe Bros., and John Burns and Co. MrW. : Shaw acted as judge, and Mr. Samuel White as timekeeper. ■

The race started at three p.m. sharp, the course being from flagship, keeping outside

Sandspit buoy, round first' buoy round North Head (Kaipara), thence round ] black buoy off Point Resolution, thence round mark boat moored south-west of Stanley Point, direct to starting line, twice round; 13 knots. All the boats started, with the exception, of Merlin. A light and flukey north-east wind wan blowing. As the yachts moved towards the line in a bunch they presented a fine sight. Zoe was first over the line, followed closely by Arcadia, Ngaixa, Calypso, Waitere, and Atangaiti, the rest of the fleet being bunched together. When off North Head on the first time round the boats received the benefit of a freshening north-east wind, and were well together. Mowai, Fairy Belle, Atangaiti, Ena. and Rangatira did not complete the course. The leading boats were favoured with a fresh leading breeze off the North Head when coming in on the second time round. Colma had' a big lead, and sailed up the harbour in fine style, followed about 14m. later by Thistle, then came Calypso 3m. behind Thistle. * '

PONSONBY CRUISING' CLUB.

OCEAN RACE TO MATT ATI A.

The Ponsonby Cruising Club held an ocean race to Matiatia, on Saturday. The handicaps which had been allotted were:—Glady scratch; Waterwitch, Bm.; Mistletoe, 15m.; Foam, 22m.; Acacia, 28m.; Ranee, 33m.; Alice, 56m. Glady finished first, about 25m. ahead of Waterwitch. Alice finished third, Acacia fourth, Foam fifth, and Ranee sixth. On corrected times, Alice is first, Acacia second, Glady third, Waterwitch fourth, and Foam fifth.

A launch race to Matiatia, round Rakino, was also held by the club. The boats started at 2.45 p.m., and their handicaps were:—Waimumu, scratch; Marore, IOJm • Alwyn, 18m.; Tamahine, 24m. 205.; Kotere, 24m. 20s. The boats were started on she Mark Foy system, handicaps being given at the start. Marore was first, she finishing at sh. 45m.: Alwyn, second, sh. 45m. 34s • Waimumu, third, sh. 46m.; Kotiri, 5h 58s : Tamahine, 6h. 12s. '
