j The Auckiaad centre of the Royal Life- ! saving Society held a carnival in the Albert - I street Baths last night. There was an excellent attendance. A very good programme, with plenty cf keen competition, was gone through, but the absence of some of tho officials caused some waits that should have been avoided. However, tho racing was interesting, and the public were pleased. .Music was provided by the Bavarian Band. Tho results of tho races were: — Inter-club Handicap. 100yds.—First heal: R. A. Tho Waitcmata Swimming Club will hold [ its . seventh carnival of the season in the j Albert-street Baths next Friday evening. Included in the programme will bo handicap races over 50yds and 215 yds, a 50yds novice j handicap, 50yds ladies' handicap, 108 yds dual relay race, and a special 100 yds handicap j race for tho members of the Waitemata j team which won the Flying Squadron chami pionship at Christchurch. The starters in I the last-mentioned event will be Champion, Welson, O'Hare, Stewart, Madigan, and Kerr-Taylor. • M. K. Champion, holder of • all the New Zealand ■ free-style championships, lias : been asked by tho New Zealand Olympic Committee whether he will bo ab!o # to represent the Dominion at the Olympic Games if selected.' Champion has replied that ho will go if satisfactory financial arrangements can bo mode.

Champion returned from Christehurch on Wednesday. .- He states that the Aucklanders found the artesian water very heavy. The lack of buoyancy of the water was strongly felt after going about 500 yds. Champion' speaks highly of tho hospitality extended to the visiting swimmers in Christchurch. The Yaldhurst shield, competed for at tho recent New Zealand championship.i for the first time, and won easily by the Auckland team, will bo shown during next week in Messrs. Partridge and Co.'s windows, Queenstreet.

The Auckland Grammar School swimming sports will take place on Wednesday in the Calliope Dock. An invitation to bo present is extended to all parents of pupils and their friends. Included in tho programme is on old 'boys' race, post entries for whioh will be received until 15m- before the starting time (4.15 p.m.) of the race.
