annual; MEETING held.
[BY TELEGRAPH.--I'RES? ASSOCIATION.] Gmouth, Wednesday. The annual meeting of the Press Association was held to-day. Mr. W. H. A tack, the manager, in bis animal report,, commented upon the continned enlargement of the cable service, which had nearly doubled in three years, and, notwithstanding the decrease in rates, ira« costing £1000 a year more than two years ago. Altogether 552,515 words of original cable matter had been supplied during the year, representing more than a million words when filled out for publication. Allusion was also made to the heavy work of reporting the election campaign, and to the great athletic gatherings which had made New Zealand their venue last year. The number of papers belonging to the association was Mated at 71. It was announced that a copyright report of Captain Scott's Antarctic expedition had been purchased. The Chairman (Mr. Brett),' in moving the adoption of the report unci balancesheet, delivered an address on tho vork-, ing of the association, with suggestions for. the improvement of the service, and men. tioned, inter alia, that this year completed the jubilee of his connection with journalism. (Applause.) Tho report was adopted. Messrs. L. Blundell and P. Solig were re-elected directors, and Mr. F. Shaw auditor. Auckland was chosen lor the next plate of meetjag. Members parsed a vote of condolence on the death of »he late Mr. W. Atlcin, of the Westport News. A motion of hearty congratulation to Mr. Brett, on hie journalistic jubilee, was carried with ; great applause.
