BRISBANE MEN RESUME.

UNIONS BALLOT FOR WOHK. COYNE TALKS OF RETREAT. A TRAMWAYS VICTORY CLAIMED. By Tekjjraph.— .Association.—Copyright (Received February 28. 10.25 p.m.) Brtsbaxk, February 28. Addressing the strikers, the chairman of the Strike Committee, Mr. Coyne, said that the tramway-men's battle had been i won, and it only remained now to see that an honourable retreat was made. If the employers were prepared to deal with them on. the lines of an honourable settlement, the Strike Committee was prepared to meet them. He would probably be able to make a statement to-morrow. Meetings of the bricklayers, boot operatives, builders' labourers and plasterers' unions decided, by secret ballot,, to return to work immediately. A deputation of plumbers and carpenters waited on Mr. Barnes (Minister for Public ■Works) and asked to bo reinstated. Mr. Barnes said that they would be taken back on the distinct understanding that their first duty was to the Government, nob to an outside organisation. THE WEARING OF BADGES. COMMENTS ON COURTS FINDING. Sydney, February 28. Discussing the decision of the president of the Federal Arbitration Court, Mr. Justice Higgins (invalidating the prohibition by tramway employers of the wearing of union badges), the Sydney Morning Herald Bays no doubt it is true that there is no common law enabling an employer to tell an employee what to wear; but the badge, in addition to the uniform, amounts to the same thing as going to work without a coat. The Daily Telegraph says that while an employee is wise to bo chary about rushing to a conclusion on Mr. Justice Higgins' dictum about clothes, tho obvious fact is £hat it is not a watch chain ornament that is objected to, but what that particular ominous ornament stood for. .• Referring to the statement concerning unionists, and the more recent form of amalgamated unionism, the Daily Telegraph says that unfortunately in most cases this form of unionism, is spoiling for a fight with both non-unionists and the community. That the Brisbane badge symbolised that form has been amply proved by events.

APPEAL TO THE HIGH COURT. (Received February 28, 9.15 p!fa.) * Adelaide, February .28. The Tramway Trust will appeal to tha High ' Court against the -decision/ of Mr. Justice Higgins. ' - t
