BOATING ACCIDENTS.
| FISHING PARTY'S EXPERIENCE. [from OUR. OWN COBHES?OJTDEKT.] Aittttaki (Cook Islands), December 4. Last week several wlialeboats went outside the Barrier Reef oil a fishing expedition. On returning one' of the boats missed the passage, and was thrown bodily on the reef, and smashed to pieces. Of the crew of seven, six were taken out to sea by the back-wash, and were subsequently picked .up by fishing 4 canoes. One man was drawn , under the reef by an under currcnt,-but eventually reached the shore much exhausted. • < ; Another ■ boat . had a novel experience. Whilst sailing along inside the lagoon in a- strong breeze, she struck a. patch of coral, and the bows were broken in. The boat's crew managed to secure a footing on the coral, and had to. remain there for eight hours, up to the waist in the sea, until relieved by a boat sent from the mainland to their assistance.
