TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIPS. I' TWO . INSPECTORS . WANTED. ■" ! ; v v ' ' A meeting of the Auckland Board; of Education was .-held yesterday - jnorning. ■ Present: Messrs. G. J. Garland (chairman), A. J. Farmer, E. C. Banks, C. T. Barriball, A., R. Harris, G. Edgecumbe, W. G. Murray and J. D. McKerizie. ; ' The suggestion of the Educational Institute for the establishment of a travelling scholarship having' been considered by; the Finance Committee, it was decided to forward the correspondence on the' subject to the Department for its favourable consideration;,; .. , : ' The question of establishing -a pew associated Hoard of Governors to take charge of the new Technical College was further deferred until the Mayor is back in Auckland, so that the City Council;can bo asked to act towards the establishment of the body.
It was reported that the 1 entries . for the senior district scholarship - ■ examinations number 37 • boys ' and' 15 girls at Auckland, three boys and ; four girls at Thames, throe boys at Whangarei, and two boys at Hamilton: *" " , ■ The following appointments were authorised : —Miss A. • M.' • Monstedt; assistant, junior model school v Miss E. J. Whitmore, assistant, Kopu; Miss D: R. Barker, teacher, Whenuakite "household" school; Miss A. S. Finlayson, temporary assistant, Whangarata; Miss D: Wilkinson,' assistant, Owhango; Miss C. Stretton, assistant, New Lynn; Mrs. A. M. ; Warner, assistant, Edendale; Miss I. 1 A. Macintosh, pupil-teacher, Te Awamutu; Miss' E. M; Houghton, •- pupil teacher, Cambridge West; Mr. H. 1). Thurston,'pupil teacher, Onehunga District High -School ; Miss A. A. I. Tanner, pupil teacher, Stanley Bay Miss E. :A. Lewenburg, pupil teacher 7 from Stanley Bay to Grafton. The following resignations were received "and adopted :-Miss E. Lacey, assistant, Whangarata; Miss E. F. N«rris, Whenuakite; Mr. R. -Beamish, fonsonby; and Miss B. I. Cooper, 1 Onehunga District High School. ' 1 It was resolved-on the recommendation of the l Finance Committee to invite applications in the four centres for the positions of two inspectors of schools, with salaries of £400 a year. -• -i > < -
