TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ! * " . Waihi, Wednesday. A rumour was circulated here to-day to the effect that owing to labour troubles operations at the Talisman Consolidated Company's mine, Karangahako, had been suspended. This, however, is incorrect, as on inquiry being made by a Herald representative, the company's superintendent (Mr. Stansfield) stated owing' to the recent, decision of the Miners' Union that the men should work on the co-opera-tive system from October 1, it had been found necessary to clean up old contracts. The cleaning up, which temporarily interfered with underground operations, had iust been completed, and work in the mine had been partially resumed under the new system. The delay caused in mining necessitated the stoppage of the mill for a few days, but crushing will be resumed next week, when the tonnage of ore required to maintain the usual output will be available.

GRAND JUNCTION. [BT TELEMUPH.-s-OWN CORRESPONDENT. Waihi, Wednesday. The work of cutting out the .chamber at No. 6 level in the Grand Junction mine is well forward, and a start will bo made with the main south-east crosscut in a few days. The new reef met with in the shaft, where it gave satisfactory assay values, should bo picked up in a few feet of driving, and the crosscut will then be pushed out for the Empire' Reef, which is estimated to bo about 70ft south of the shaft, r ... . *

- , : - WAIHI. [nr telegraph.—own correspondent. Waihi, Wednesday. Splendid*, progress has been made- with the crosscut north from the Empire. reef to intersect the Martha at the 1150 ft level in the Waihi mine, and the ore body which will be tapped on the hangingwall section should be to hand inside a fortnight. . JV ■ : MAORILAND. \ Reporting; for the week : ended;'. October 9, the manager of the Maoriland mine, Waitekauri, states that ore of payable quality is being- won from the stopes at the intermediate level (75ft below No. 3 level). ' Driving north on the west section :of the lode from No. 1 rise over the low level is in progress, and the ore ex- ; posed daring the past week has shown an improved appearance.

. . THAMES ; DEEP LEVELS. 4 A meeting of the General Purposes Committee of the Thames Deep Levels Board was held yesterday, when the tender of Dunlop and party, Thames, was accepted, for the driving of 380 ft of the Saxon subsidiary crosscut. It was also decided to invite.tenders for extending the low level tunnel the next 500 ft.

"4; ' / NOTES. The manager of the New Waitaia mine, Kuaotumt, reports that the sinking of No. 2 winze from No. 5 level has been resumed; the windlass and brace having been erected. The country is very firm, the reef showing about 2ft of clean quartz at the south end. The north end is not so well defined, being at times splashed with country rock. A few colours of gold were seen last week for the first time. In the low levels the south drive has been stopped for the present and two shifts are employed driving north until a connection is effected with No. 1 winze, which still requires 150 ft to get under that point. Good progress should be made, as the country is excellent, with a heavy flow of water. f

' In the Ilandsworth United mine, Ivuaotunu, the winze from the Handsworth level is down 16ft through a good belt of country. Two stopes are in progress in the Otama section, both north and south, giving good dish prospects, but no quartz has been taken down for several days. ■In the course of a week or two attention will be' given to the extension of this block, as good dish prospects are obtainable for nearly 100 ft north of the block being operated on at present, which has been taken out for a height of 30ft, leaving still 100 ft overhead..

The four stopes in hand in the Mountain King mine, Kuaotunu, were advanced 50ft last week,, taken conjointly, and ore of good value is being obtained from each one., The reef varies in width from, 18in. to 4ft. The northern rise has been extended by contract 4f'fc with one man. The low level contractors have just about completed their 400 ft (this is the second contract)." A small lode, supposed to. be the Mountain King one. has just been cut. The stone is full of minerals and looks well, but in a piece or two pulled out gold was not visible to the naked eye. . ..
