The decision of the annual meeting of delegates to specially record the thanks of tho association to Lord Hawke for his splendid services to the cricketers of Auckland is a well-merited tribute to one who has done much for the sport in all parts of tho Empire. The special services rendered to Auckland cricket havo been in the direction of recommending and engaging professional coaches. The proved ability and character of the men chosen is the highest praise that can bo bestowed on Lord Hawke's judgment of cricketers and men. A E. Rolf and F. Pearson were'indeed of the highest type of professional cricketers, and shortly we will have with us in G. J. Thompson a well-edu-cated cricketer of fine character and unassuming manner, who has gained high distinction in this season's county contests. r
