MINING NEWS.

WATCHMAN. The manager of the Watchman mine, Thames, reports that the City of Dunedin reef is now a firmer class of quartz, carrying mineral and sulphides. The Sunbeam low level is in 420 ft, and the quartz is now heavily charged with minerals. A band of sulphide is running on the hanging wall, in which a few colours, of gold are seen. ■ NOTES. The low level in the Waitangi mine, Thames, is in 2581 ft, and the country is still of a white sandstone. *: vj In the Kuranui mine, Thames, the leader in the battery low level continues to show colours of gold. The Oddfellows' reef in the drive. from the surface level is now divided into two portions, and the footwall is showing strong colours of gold.' The manager of- the Rising Sun mine, Karangahake, reports that the contractors finished their contract on September 27, and after that date, up to the 7th inst., 7ft was driven by day labour. This makes a total of 1731 ft driven. The ground has been very hard for boring, making progress slow. A hard bar running with small leader, which is crossing out of drive at a long angle, has been met with. Better country is coming in on the west side of 1 drive.
