DRAINAGE WORKERS' STRIKE.
TROUBLE AT QNEHUNGA. ft i ' " ~ A KT7MBEK of men employed by Mr. Coulson at the new drainage works at Onehunga went on strike on Saturday. The men had been receiving Is 6d per hour for the few hours that they were able to work when the tide was out. They demanded 2s 6d per hour, as they were working in water over their boot-tops, and considered Is 6d insufficient.. When the tide receded oh Saturday afternoon three or four men went to work, but the others refused to turn to. Yesterday morning about 20 men engaged in trenching on the roads struck, in sympathy with their mates. About 30 men have been paid off by Mr. Coulson, who intends engaging others immediately. The deadlock will not, it is considered, last very lung, while an attempt at conciliation is likely to be made this morning.
