TROUT-FISHING IN AUCKLAND

SEASON'S PROSPECTS GOOD. The trout-fishing season in districts south of the Auckland province has opened auspiciously and good sport is invariably recorded. A party of anglers (writes our New Plymouth correspondent) consisting of Messrs. R. W. D. Robertson, T. Boddam, E. Buily, and L. B. Webster went to the Opunake district for the opening ot the season, and had splendid sport. The party spent three days whipping the streams, and secured 95 fish, all in nice condition and ranging from l|lb to 2£lb. The season opens a month sooner in the south than it does in Auckland, as the fish spawn earlier in a- colder climate. On the first of next month the season opens here, and according to Mr. W. II Hazard, the president of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society, the prospects fot the season were exceedingly good if the systematic stocking carried out by the society went for anything. Good results had been obtained at Okoroiro last year, where the sport had previously been poor for a long time. This year the fish promised to be better if anything. The hsh seen lately at Hamilton give reason to expect that this summer some good catches would be recorded. Reports Jrom "Waikare Lake, near Eangiriri, where the society had put in,a lot of fish. showed that Sib and 61b fish had lately been seen there. The society had been paying a good deal of attention to Takapuna, and it was -hoped results would be seen there this season.
