AUTHORITY FOR, BIG SCHEMES.

[by telegraph.— correspondent.] ' Wellington, Monday. Some" important amendments will to inserted in the - * Auckland Harbour Board - Empowering. Bill, the second reading of which will be moved in the House of Representatives by Mr. Myers (Auckland East) on Thursday. Mr. Myers and Mr.-'E. K. Kussell, the Board's solicitor, have had. an interview with the Minister, for Railways, resulting in an agreement that new provisions will be added to the Bill to enable the Board to proceed with the reclamation of 30 acres in Mechanics' Bay, which will provide sufficient land for - railway purposes for the next 50 year's. This work will be undertaken in the terms arranged by the chairman of the Board, Mr. J. H. Gunson, during his recent visit to Wellington. Authority will also be provided in the measure for the widening and straightening of Cus-toms-street West and Quay-street, according to the recommendation of the recent conference between the City Council and the Harbour Board, and for an exchange of sites with those lessees affected by the latter scheme. ..-',<.
