WHAT WE OWE TO THE FARMER.
Sir,—-Who has turned the. forest wilderness into smiling homesteads . and money-, making farms? The farmer! For whom? For the benefit of the whole community. Who exported £16,000,000 worth of produce last year out of £20,000,000? The farmer Who keeps the Dominion solvent? The armor! Who fesds the cities? The farmer! Who makes it possible, for Sir Joseph to borrow millions for public works? The farmer! Who maintains our credit in London? Tho farmer. Who has doubled the value of the land in the Dominion during the last 20 years? The farmer chiefly! Who is responsible for our present prosperity? The farmer! How much have our manufacturing industries contributed to our exports? With the exception of butterwhich is farm produce—almost nothing! It is the farmer every time. What does he deserve for his untiring industry, and for making it possible for others to' five prosperous ana happy lives? Taxing out of existence? Hardly! There are still a few people left who appreciate his efforts and know his worth, Mr. Withy notwithstanding. ' Old Colonist.
