STATE COAL MINE.

NOT NEEDED IN AUCKLAND. [IT TELEGRAM.— CORRESPONDENT.} Wellington, Sunday. The working by the State of a coal mine in the Auckland province was advocated by Messrs. Poole (Auckland West) and Glover (Auckland Central) in the House of Representatives on Saturday morning. The Minister for Mines (Hon. R. McKenzie) replied that the time was not opportune for the State to enter into the coal mining industry in Auckland. Three new private mines were being opened, and this increase in the supply should tend to reduce the price of coal in the province.
