WILL BRISBANE BE DROPPED?

At a meeting of the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce last week a discussion took place on the reported possibility of Brisbane ceasing to be a port of call for Island steamers. It was pointed 'out that for some years Burns, 1 »alp, and Co. had conducted a service to the Islands and Sydney via Brisbane, receiving a subsidy from the Commonwealth Government. Mr. Mackenzie said the boats would call at Brisbane Only if there was sufficient trade. He thought- a direct service between Brisbane and the Solomons might develop the Queensland trade. The president mentioned the prospects of the establishment of a copra mill in Brisbane.
