Mb Harold Beauchamt, chairman of tho Bank <>£ New Zealand, is leaving shortly on a visit to the Old Country. Mr. G. G. Bridges, Registrar-General of Lands, is at present in Auckland on a short visit from Wellington. Mr. J. Colvin, M.l', for idler, arrived by the Main Trunk express yesterday morning, and is staying at the. Royal Hotel. Mr. Leo Myers, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, left by the Main Trunk express last evening for Wellington. Mr. D. Buick, M.P. for Palmerston North, hag sufficiently recovered from his recent serious illness to enable him to get jlbotit again. Mr. and Mrs. S. 0. Favr, who wore tho first couple married in Canterbury, celebrated the 61st anniversary of their wedding on Thursday last.

Mr. B. Hector, registrar of the New Zealand University, arrived from Wellington by the Main Trunk express yesterday morning, and is staying at the Star Hotel.

Mr. W. Fall a, assistant-general traffic manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, and Mr. 0. C. Sundin, of Vavau, arrived from Sydney yesterday, and are shying at Cargen. i

Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Browne, of London. >nd Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fisher, of Sydney, who are touring the Dominion, arrived in Auckland on Saturday from Rotorua, and are slaying at Cargen.

The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. Wilford) continues to make good progress towards recovery, though it will be fully a fortnight before he can leave tho private hospital in which ho is being treated.

Mr. W. Clarke, chief clerk at the Onehunga railway station, who has been transferred to Whangarei, was the recipient of «■ handsome smokers' companion on Thursday, as a presentation from a number of his friends.

Mr. W. IT. Smith, of Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Waddy, of Blenheim, Messrs. B. B. Jackson, of Nelson. A. F. Rattray,of Dtmedin, and IT. A. Bowen, of Christchurch, arrived by the Main Trunk express vesterday and are staying at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. James Allen, M.P. for Bruce, and his two daughters arrived by the .Main Trunk express yesterday, and they are staying at the Grand Hotel. This evening Mr. Allen will give a political address at Devonport. He and his daughters will leave on a holiday tour to Australia, via the South Sea Islands, on Wednesday.

Major Johnston, who has been appointed director of Ordnance of the New Zealand Defence Forces, is due by the Tongariro on June 30. Coming by the same vessel are Sergeant Parkes, of the Grenadier Guards, and Sergeant Woodhead, of the West Yorkshire Regiment, who have received appointments under the defence scheme. Ho will remain in England until the early part of next year. It is understood, that Mr. A. Fraser, of Foxton, will be a candidate for the seat Mr. G. W. C. Moon, Government Tourist Agent at Christchurch, arrived by the express from Rotorua on Saturday, having come up from Wellington, via Waiouru, Taupo and Wairakei. 'He will leave for the North to-morrow for the purpose of discovering new tourist routes, and bringing the ' information regarding tho others up-to-date. The many friends of Mrs. Edmund Bell, wife of Mr. Edmund Bell, architect, late of Auckland, will regret to hear of her death, which took placo at Vancouver on May 10, a few days after her return from a visit to Auckland. Mr.. Bell arrived'yesterday by the Maheno.w'ith. her remains. Tho funeral will leave the Baptist Tabernacle this afternoon for [> Waikumete, tho deceased having expressed a wish to be laid beside her children. .

* Mr. John Kelly May, an old resident of 47 years' standing, died on Saturday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Hayhow, Ponsonby Road, after a short illness. Ho arrived in New Zealand in the sailing ship Matoba, in 1364, and as a pioneer endured many hardships, first at Waiuku, and then at the Thames, when tho gold rush broke out. He afterwards settled in Auckland. Ho leaves eight sons, two daughters, and 35 grandchildren.

The Morning Post (London) recently 'contained tho following bethrothal notification : —" A marriage has been arranged, and will shortly take place, between StaffSurgeon S. H. Woods, M.D., Royal Navy, of His Majesty's ship Cambrian, Australian Station, and Rubi Jessie, the youngest daughter of the late Right Hon. Richard J. Seddon, P.C., LL.D., Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Mrs. Seddon, of Eccleston, Wellington, New Zealand."

Mr. W. H. Hargreaves, of Christehiireh. one of the first, and probably the oldest living client of the Bank of New Zenland in Christehiireh, wrote to the chairman of directors, in connection with the jubilee year meeting of the bank, tendering his warmest congratulations. "1 may mention," he said, "that it has been my privilege to be associated with tho bank since its opening here in March, 1862, when I became a client, and during an un broken period of nearly 50 years I have enjoyed business relations of the most pleasant and, I venture to think, "mutually satisfactory character. I believe lam correct in stating that by brother (the late Mr. E. A. Hargreaves) was the first of the bank's clients in Lyttelton, where the business of tho bank first commenced in Canterbury."
