PUNT CAPSIZES.
FIFTY CATTLE DROWNED
While about 50 head of cattle, belonging to Mr. C. Newham, of Opotiki, were being carried across the Kangituiki River at Te Toko in the ferry punt last, week. the punt capsized through the breaking of a portion of the wire rope. The men in, charge of the oattlo narrowly escaped drowning, and the animals were pressed down, under the water and drowned. Mr. Newsham estimates his loss at £180.
