A groat, many family Bibles have, been discovered in Victoria since the collection of tho census cards. Such at least is to lie gathered from many of the letters to tffe Commonwealth statistician confessing that ages were understated on the curds. The usual excuse given by the ladies is that they have found tho family Bible, and found at the same time that they are several years older than they thought they wore. "Another popular form of letter is : " Since stating my ago I have been informed by my mother that a mistake has occurred, and that I was born on ' so-and-so.' " One morning's post brought 374 confessions to the head enumerator, one being from a Ballarat doctor. The day's pilo had grown to 500 by the last postal delivery. In other States similar publicity is being given to the statistician's threat of legal proceedings if correct ages aro not given, and a similar .rain of corrections is proceeding
