A story is going the rounds to the effect "that tho Hon. R. McKenzie motored past the tollgate at Inaha, refusing to pay toll. The Hawera Star says it is not an apologist for tho lion, gentleman's action, but it ought to be stated that though quite unjustifiably he questioned liability to pay toll, and was evidently annoyed at what took place, he did eventually pay the toll fees, sending his secretary back with the money.
A very pleasant function was held in the Tiffin restaurant last evening, -when a conference and social gathering of the members of the Auckland Provincial Coachbuildcrsand Wheelwrights' Association was held. The president, Mr. D. Flynn, occupied the chair. A number of toasts wore duly honoured, and on excellent programme of musical items vm contributed,
