"HOMELESS, WITHOUT WORK."

A TOtrxo man named Eugene O'Grady limped into the prisoner's box at the Police Court yesterday to answer a charge of being an,,idlo and disorderly person. A constable found O'Grady wandering about the city in the early houre of yesterday morning, and the man said he was homeless and had just come out of the hospital, suffering from a broken leg, and was unable to do any work. SubInspector Hendrey said if this was so the accused should be given a chance to get employment, and for that purpose the presiding justices (Messrs. Geo. Martin and E. McCallum) remanded him for a week.

DRUNKENNESS. Mary Ann Windsor admitted her second offence of drunkenness during the past six months, and was fined £1, or three days, while Michael Jordan, who has also been convicted of drunkenness before, was fined £1, or seven days and prohibited. ' Two first offenders were convicted and discharged, one forfeited £1 bail, while two others were unable to appear, as they were In the hospital suffering from the effects of .their dissipation

STOWAWAY SENT TO GAOL. During the passage of the Navua from Fiji to Auckland, a stowaway named Edward Wilkinson was found* concealed aboard ' the vessel, and on arrival of the Navua at Auckland, on Wednesday night, Wilkinson was handed over to the ponce. T\je accused admitted tho offence, and he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.

A DANGEROUS DOG. Baron do Voley was charged with being the owner of a dog which bit a boy. Evidence was given that the dog was troublesome, and a nuisance to neighbours. The defence was that the dog was worried by children, and was inoffensive. The 'Bench decided that "the dog is absolutely dangerous," and it was ordered to bo destroyed, and defendant was ordered to pay 19s costs. MISCELLANEOUS. Chns. Edward Kennard and Walter Smith, charged with deserting from H.M.S. Pioneer, were ordered to bo placed on board the cruiser. James Finley was fined 5s and costs for allowing goods to hang from the verandah of his shop over the footpath. A fino of £2, and costs 13s, was inflicted on Herbert Newdick for driving a gig in Queen-street at a furious pace. Arthur Connolly was fined £1, and costs 7s. for wilfully breaking a bottlo on the Queen's Parade, Devonport.
