WAIHI.

The local director of the "Waihi Gold Mining Company (Mr. 0. Rhodes) despatched the following cable message to the London office of tho company yesterday:"No. 9 lovel: Royal lode west of No. 5 shaft crosscut, 10ft driven (570 ft to 580fU, 2s 6cl per ton. Edward lode, south from Porch crosscut, next 20ft driven (275 ft to 295 ft), 6s per ton; next 10ft driven (295 ft to 305 ft), £3 10s per ton. Reptile south-east crosscut, 40ft driven (395 ft to 435 ft). No. 10 level: Crosscut north from No. 5 shaft, 17ft driven (591 ft to 603 ft). Have tapped a large quantity of water. The level is full of water. Will probably stop development work for throp days." TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. The superintendent of tho Talisman Consolidated mine cabled to the London office of the company as follows yesterday:—"No. 13 level: youth Progress. 36ft; reef, 66in wide: average value, £4 Bs. Driving north of No. 12 —Progress, lift; reef, 42in wide; average value, £5 7s. Driving south of N.o. 12 winze—Progress, 18ft; reef wider than drive; average value, £9 65." tair.ua mines. The following message has been received from the manager of the Tairua mines. Puketui:—" Penetrated reef, which is 6ft 6in wide, with defined hangingwall. The water is about back to normal." The manager, reporting for tho week ended May 20. states that in the crosscut to intersect the Western reef the country mot with was harder than usual, and several bands o/ quartz were passed through, all of them showing small values. Sloping operations wore continued on the Night reef south, and in the Bluchor shaft. The ore operated on was of a" payable nature. Some good grade ore was broken from the Night winze. OCCIDENTAL Tho manager of tho Occidental mine, Thames, telegraphed yesterday as follows: 'Broke down Occidental reef. Saw strong blotches of gold through tho quartz." 'THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD. Tho Thames Drainage Board met yesterday. Present: Tho Hon. 15. Mireholson (chairman). Messrs. Henry Lowe (Mayor of Thames), C. Hudson, H. Gilfillan, J. Kneebone, H. H. Adams, W. Baker, E. A. Bro#ri, and Graves Aicken. Mr. Millar (solicitor) reported regarding the hearing of tho drainage appeals, and that the Warden had reserved his decision. He further stated that the Warden expressed his entire approval of tho manner upon which the assessments had beon fixed. For tho first time tho matter had been placed before tho Warden in such a manner as to cnablo him to make adjustments that might be necessary. A notification was received from the Minister for Mines, stating that ho would give a subsidy of £80 towards tho cost of the new capstan rope. The chairman said the rope had been ordered and would bo delivered .. in July. The engineer drew attention to the .need for repairing the shed at the old big pump. It was decided to refer the matter to the committee of Thames members to report as to the best steps to be taken. Mr. Adams said the shaft should at all events be enclosed with an iron fence.

NOTES.

The riso on the reef in the Kirikiri Consolidated mine was extended sft last week. The reef is still 2ft wide, and carries good minerals.

The manager of the Kapowai mine, Mercury Bay, reports that the scam at tho No. 2 level is small at present, but is still turning out payable ore. Colours of gold are seen in the stone every day.

During last week operations in tho Now Magnet mine; Thames, wero .confined to stoping out the main reef. No ; 7 stope going east, was extended 12ft, making a total of 38ft. The reef at each breaking down shows gold freely in the quartz. The country at this point is much firmer.

The main crosscut in the Gordon section of tho Tellurides mine, Marototo, to intersect the Corbett's reef was extended 38ft lost week, leaving a further distance of 328 ft to be diven to intersect tho reef. The eastern crosscut in the Volunteer section was extended 17ffc.
