AUCKLAND CENTRE'S REUNION.
The first annual reunion of the Auckland centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held in Buchanan's cafe. Queen-street, last evening. Mr. T. P. Cilfedder (president) being in the. chair. There was a large and representative gathering of delegates from country clubf* including the following:—Messrs. Lusk (Te Kuiti), Mills (Papakura), Rea, (Helensville), Pheasant (Matakohe). Cornthwaite (Bombay), Mitchell (Tauranga), Binney (Waikato Caledonians), and Stanton, ex-secretary West Coast (South Island) centre. Apologies for absence were, received from the Hon. Minister for Agriculture (Hon. T. Mackenzie). Mr. A. M. Myers, and the secretaries of several kindred sports. Telegrams wishing the Auckland centre success were received from Mr. Kennedy (Geraldine), president New Zealand Athletic Union, and several centre secretaries. The proceedings were very enthusiastic, and much benefit should result from the interchange of ideas regarding sports management and the methods of purifying the sport in the province. A lengthy toast list was honoured as follows:—" The King," proposed by the chairman; "Parliament of New Zealand," proposed by Mr. Rea and responded to by Mr. F. Lawry, M.P., and Mr. A. E. Glover, M.P.; "New Zealand Athletic Union." proposed by Mr. Stantoa and responded to by Mr. Gjlfedder; "Auckland Centre." proposed by Mr. Pheasant and responded to by Messrs! Woodley and Pardineton; "The Handicappers," proposed byMr". Rea and responded to by Mr. Burbush; "Kindred Sports," proposed by Mr. Lusk and responded to by Mr. Frost (amateur centre) and Sutherland (cycling). A programme of musical and vocal items and recitations was given by Messrs. Purcell, Britt, Sutherland, Poole. Arthur Austin. Matthews. Brough, Lewis. Tunnicliffe, and Saunders.
