WAIOTAHL

E,ei>okting to shareholders for the halfyear ended December 31 last the directors of the Waiotahi Gold Mining Company, Limited, state that mining operations .have been carried on as usual, and a start has been made with sinking tho main shaft, which is now down 56ft; below tho No. 6 level.. After, providing for the usual expenditure, including tho cost of sinking the main shaft, tho profit for the six months has been £27 Is 3d. The directors propose to go on steadily with sinking the shaft unless stopped by an influx of water. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of £13,296 9s sd, with £190 19s lOd due to sundry creditors.

PRIDE OF TOKATEA.

Cobosiandel, Tuesday.

No hauls of picked stone have been reported in the Pride of Tokatea mine since Tuesday last, but ore of good grade has been coming to hand. A total of 1601b of picked stone has been reported, and about, two tons of general ore are on hand. This will bo put through this week, when the value of the ore will'be ascertained.

A road is being made to got the quartz out, and timbering is proceeding at the main level. The 'drive - to intersect the winze lode was advanced 20ft last week.

Coromandkl, Tuesday 1 .

The Mills's Reward Gold Mining Company are carrying out steady development works in the "Mills's Reward and the Moturoa special claim at Waikanac, near Cabbage Bay. Mr. James Davics is in charge of tho operations, and tho outlook is very encouraging since operations were resumed. No. 2 level on the big reef in the Mills's Reward section has been driven 82ft from the crosscut. For tho last 10ft there has been an improvement in the country, and blotches and colours of gold have been seen at each breaking down. In the Moturoa, section three promising reefs have been.exposed. Tho Moturoa reef has been . driven on, and blotches and colours of gold wore • seen in the lodo for 28ft. A lower level has been driven, and at a distance of 28ft tho footwall lode was cut in '■; a good channel of country. Gold was visible in the ore where tho roof was intersected, and the country and mineral indications are favourable for making gold. THAMES WARDEN'S COURT. In the Dominion mine, Karangahako, driving on tho western low. level and face has been extended a further 21ft, making 172 ft in all.

The country in the face in the No. 9 level in the Golden Cross mine is of a hard nature, and does not shoot well, making progress slow. Work at the lottery is being pushed ahead. Y.

The manager of the Silver Stream mines, Maratoto, reports that the hard bar that crossed tho tunnel a couple of weeks ago still exists. A quartz soarn 61 wide crossed the face, but is of no value. For the past week 10ft has been driven, making a total of 657 ft. : ; v

The low level in the Golden Bejt mine, Noavesville, has been extended a' further 76ft. At present the men are engaged timbering tho main crosscut. As soon as this is completed a start will bo made to open out on the hangingwall. "•

For the week ended January 21, the No. 1 level in Dixon's Consolidated mine has been extended Bft, making a total of 150f A reef formation composed of friable quartz, with a seam of pug crossing the lead, was met with on Saturday. ■

The contractors made a start at the Rising Sun mine with six men on January 16, and have driven a furthor distance of 26ft during the week, making a total of 1405 ft, which is all timbered up to face. The country still continues good for working.

The now low level in the New Sylvia mine, Thames,; has been extended 20ft, making 536 ft in all. Good blocky andesite country, favourable for progress, is now being penetrated. The work of erecting the battery is now Hearing completion.

Since resuming work . after the holidays in the Kirikiri Consolidated mine the men have been engaged in cleaning up .the drive and putting in timbers whore required. Tho contractors commenced driving the , last 81ft on Monday, and will push through as quickly as possible. •

At the Champion mine stoping on the Ajax reef has teen in progress during tlie week, and the reef has shown a marked improvement coming north from tho rise. It has opened out ■to 4ft in width, and colours of gold can bo freely soon in the quartz broken out. The ore (says tho manager) is of higher grade than that taken out previously.

In the Point Russell mine, Thames, tho drive at the intermediate level on tho hangingwall portion of the Moanataiari IS a 9 reef has been advanced 10ft for the week. The country is improving as tho drivo advances, and the reef has shown itself to bo a well-defined body of stone, about 6ft, in width, the hangingwall portion, about 18iu wide, being separated from five main body by a band of mullock about 6in wide. Tho quartz will be broken down this week.

The drive on tho reef at No. 1 level in the Hauraki Reefs mine, Coromand<d, is in 270 ft. Tho reef is rather small, but shows good date and blotches of gold when broken. In tho leading scope west of the rise the reef is about Ift wide, and shows colours of gold. In the leading stope east of tho riso the reef has a width of 14in, and is .heavily mineralised. No. 1 stope west has been driven 6ft, and good date of gold are seen. At the 400 ft level tho drive on tho 20th inst. was in 63ft, leaving approximately 14ft to reach the . company's boundary. A reef about 2ft in width has been out, dipping with a good underlie from tho Hauraki Beefs in tho Old Hauraki property. Lcggo's reef, says the manager, should be met with about this point, but this reef has a different underlie. From the direction in which tho reef is dipping, there will bo more quartz overhead in the Hauraki Reefs ground than in the Old Hauraki. The reef where intersected is perfectly dry, but, ho says, they should get some water when the time footwall is reached.
